The Evolving Treatment Landscape of CLL and the Impact of the Pharmacist in Optimizing Patient Outcomes

Friday, March 13, 2020 • 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM EDT

Description:
Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the most common type of leukemia in adults, with an estimated 20,720 new cases occurring in 2019. The advent of oral small molecule inhibitors has changed the treatment landscape and, ultimately, the outcomes of patients with CLL. Evidence for the use of oral monotherapy and oral oncolytics in combination with chemoimmunotherapy is rapidly progressing. This session will focus on the efficacy and safety of oral targeted therapies and their place in therapy based on treatment guidelines. The role of pharmacists in the prevention and mitigation of adverse effects and adherence strategies to optimize patient outcomes will also be emphasized.

Oncology Pharmacy Insights: Challenging Cases in Patient Care With BTK Inhibitors in B-Cell Malignancies

Friday, March 13, 2020 • 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM EDT

Description:
Bruton’s tyrosine kinase (BTK) has become a critical target for B-cell malignancies that rely on the BCR pathway. Significant research has taken place over the past decade to explore the efficacy and safety of these agents and their role in therapy. Multiple BTK inhibitors are now available and hold significant places in the treatment algorithms as monotherapy and in combination approaches for diseases such as mantle cell lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and Waldenström macroglobulinemia. It is essential that pharmacists involved in the care of patients who require treatment with BTK inhibitors have knowledge of the latest clinical data to improve clinical decision making. This program will emphasize clinical and safety evidence for approved and emerging BTK inhibitors in the treatment of B-cell malignancies and highlight pharmacists’ roles in prevention and management of treatment-related adverse effects to improve adherence and patient outcomes.

Examining the Evolving Landscape of Multiple Myeloma and the Pharmacist’s Role in Treatment

Saturday, March 14, 2020 • 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM EDT

Description:
The treatment landscape for multiple myeloma (MM) is evolving rapidly, and pharmacists need to be aware of an increasing number of therapeutic options including multiple combination approaches. However, combined with the heterogeneity of MM and the diversity of the patient population, the fast-evolving treatment armamentarium is making patient care increasingly complex. This program will focus on advancements in MM treatment in the past year and the role of pharmacists within the team to help optimize adherence monitoring plans, manage adverse effects, and evaluate the effectiveness of new and emerging therapeutic approaches.
