Program Description
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a hematologic malignancy that involves proliferation of immature lymphoid cells in the bone marrow, peripheral blood, and other organs. Current treatment regimens for ALL consist of multiple chemotherapy agents delivered throughout several distinct phases of therapy. The addition of asparaginase to these regimens has led to improvements in remission rates and increased survival for patients with ALL. As part of the multidisciplinary care team, oncology pharmacists contribute to improved patient outcomes and help ensure the safe and effective use of systemic therapies. Through this activity, pharmacists will be equipped with the knowledge necessary to effectively monitor patients with ALL for asparaginase-associated toxicities as well as ensure proper management of hypersensitivity reactions and other adverse effects.
