Program Description
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a commonly occurring inflammatory skin condition that causes patients to experience redness and itching. As frontline health care providers, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are likely to encounter patients seeking information about OTC skin care products for AD. Routine use of daily moisturizers and adjunctive therapies has shown to improve the skin barrier and reduce symptoms associated with AD; however, several barriers to the optimal use of these products exist that limit patient adherence and outcomes. This podcast will review counseling points about the proper use of OTC skin care products for AD treatment and management as well as strategies for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to identify and address barriers affecting adherence. The discussion will also feature the perspective of a caregiver of a patient living with AD who will provide additional insight into challenges faced with AD treatment.
